Hello,

I am attempting to install Sentinix on a Gateway GPS-350 workstation and am running into some issues during the install process. The workstation boots from the cd, I enter 'plain' (the workstation has a single processor) and I am presented with a console message that states "Type "install" to enter Sentinix' installation program. If you want a console during install you find them on Alt+F2, Alt+F3 and Alt+F4. Syslog messages are on tty12 (Alt+F12)." I type 'install' at the ***@sentinix:/# prompt. I am then presented with a Sentinix Installation Procedure screen. I select the keyboard type (English) and then select number 2 (Start the Installation process) and I receive the following message:

"No hard disks found" Press return to continue.

If there is a workaround, please let me know.

What kind of hard drive(s) do you have in this unit? It sounds like the
driver wasn't loaded for the controller/drives.

Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure what kind of drive I have; it is the original drive included with the the Gateway GP6-350. Is there a way to prepare and format the disk using the cfdisk utility? I have used a console and have run cfdisk to create the bootable Linux partition and the Linux swap but need to format the drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Lindsay

You MUST have the controller drivers, otherwise you will never be able
to see the hard drives.

I would say check the bios and see if it lists there. I'm not sure what
comes standard on that particular unit. If I had to guess, I'd guess
IDE/ATA/UDMA and Sentinix has the standard drivers for that.

If Gateway used proprietary controllers (many years ago, they did) then
you'd need to download them and include them somehow. I'm not all THAT
familiar with that part, though.
